Retiring

I've enjoyed my job for a long time now, but this year being what it was reminded me that I was not meant to work forever. So I decided to retire. In fact I have only 4 more days of work to go. Yay me!

But, telling everyone at work was a little harder than I thought. I told my boss three months ago I was retiring. Okay, well, great...are you sure?  Yes, I am sure...well okay, great...we'll see.

We'll see meant he was not going to hire anyone right away to take my place. We will see apparently meant he is going to wait me out until the very last day I am at the job and see if I was really serious because I have not had anyone to train for the several parts of my job that take a little getting used to, training or some back up knowledge to know.  But hey, that's not my problem, right? I am retiring.

Last week a co-worker told me the boss gave her two of my former jobs.  Would I be available by phone to help her figure it out?  Look, it's called retirement because I am not supposed to go to work! That means by phone either.  I mean I can answer a question or two but seriously?

I have a younger sister who is not retiring until a year from now, but her place of employment is already hiring someone to take her place to work with her for a WHOLE YEAR to learn the job, she works in admissions.  I mean my job is not rocket science, but hey, I run computer networking, website, social media, print weekly bulletins and keep a volunteer database.  Maybe I make it look too easy?  That must be it.

Meanwhile, I wait on these last few days to work with my co-worker who is too busy doing her own job to learn anything from me.  Guess what guys, I am not going to be at the beck and call of everyone when I am gone.  I am thinking of changing my phone number just so I don't get a bunch of calls, but that would be a really pain to change with all my family and friends.  Still...  I plan on relaxing, not answering phones, not doing technology or dealing with people.

I have a ton of knitting to do, and some crocheting as well. I am also wanting to look into tatting, oil painting, baking bread and cultivating a herb garden.  I will be teaching sewing to my granddaughters and doing some photography.   Who has time for phone calls?   Not me!
